Lost & Found
As a solo traveller for the best part of my 20’s, waking up in different surrounds, writing most days, producing music & poems, learning different cultures, languages and ways of life, getting lost down back streets of foreign cities in my running shoes, living off £10 a day for food and drink, popping to local hip hop shows at coffee shops, or punk shows in dingy basements.. relocating back to New Zealand, a place few and far from the immediate world can bring many things.
It can deliver happiness during the same moment it provides loneliness. It shares boredom whilst presenting curiosity. It can honour gratitude and the split second it prop’s up jealousy. It can bring peace and the feeling of being grounded whilst dreaming of that Mediterranean coast.
Here I am, content in nature with family, friends and community all around me — which in a sense I consider successful in a wonderful small city. I lead a relatively healthy lifestyle involving near travel to destinations reachable over a weekend by car. We cook every night, sleep well and generally the roof over our heads is perfect.
Yet something is missing.
My name is Samuel Brian Goodwin.
Welcome to The Lost Archives, where we will rediscover my travel journal, I will write what I have down and re-create to share a misty road once travelled.
